Great interest from Zurich in the "STL Line 13"

After 6 months of operation, the STL already has a wealth of knowledge from "STL Line 13". The Zurich Office for Economy and Labour (AWA) therefore visited us in Mühlental on 21 November 2023 and gained an insight into the pilot project.

The company network "Autonomous Systems with Ground Contact" is an initiative of the Canton of Zurich's Division of Business and Economic Development. One of its central objectives is to promote collaboration between various players in the field of autonomous driving. Among other things, the participating companies and organisations from business and academia are looking in depth at the complex issues surrounding the regulatory framework and the successful implementation of pilot projects.

The "STL Line 13" is proof that such pilot projects can be realised even against the backdrop of an uncertain legal situation. Matthias Rödter and Dirk Apel presented our key findings from the approval process and the operational phase, which has been running since April 2023, to the participants.

The subsequent workshop focussed in depth on various problems and challenges in connection with autonomous driving systems. In two groups, the participants discussed issues and possible solutions, always based on the findings from "STL Line 13".

At the same time, "Rhyder" was available to our guests for test drives. We were delighted to have a very interested audience, quite a few of whom had already had personal experience with self-driving vehicles in the past. This led to exciting discussions about the driving experience, technology, safety and acceptance, which continued into the subsequent apéro.
