Rhyder continues to make its reliable rounds through the Schaffhausen Mühlental and celebrates its 200th day of operation on 27 December! A lot has happened during this time. After two years of preparation, the STL put Switzerland's first dual-mode vehicle on the road on 28 April. Since then, this technology has been proving its worth every day anew. The Swiss weather is no match for Rhyder. Heavy rain and thunderstorms in spring/summer and snowfall in winter left our bus unimpressed. The vehicle, software and sensors are more than 95% reliable. Only the grass on the green areas along Mühlentalstrasse and heavy leaf fall in autumn played a trick on Rhyder from time to time. Special thanks go to our safety drivers, who have been working on our pilot project for the past 8 months. Without them, we would not be on the road.

2024 will be an exciting year, too. The consultation on the new Ordinance on Automated Driving (AFV) will run until the beginning of February 2024. Together with the revision of the Road Traffic Act (SVG), a legal framework for automated driving will be created. The STL is actively involved in the discussion and contributes its knowledge and experience. Together with industry, science and the public sector, we are shaping the mobility of the future!

Rhyder himself cares little about this. He will continue to drive his laps undisturbed in the New Year and bring automated driving to life for the public. The STL wishes you a Merry Christmas and a safe journey into the New Year.
